Sarah Boyton launched Jack’s Cafe, in Elsinge Estate in Bullsmoor in memory of her 17-year-old son Jack.
He died in a crash in November last year with his two friends Harry Ferrand, 17 and Ashley Jones, 19.
Mrs Boyton, said: “Jack started it and looked into everything and he’d even started working on it – he was very entrepreneurial.
“Then the accident happened and I was asked if I was going to continue it but I didn’t even have to think, I just said yes.
“This is our way of remembering him because it was what he wanted.”
The cafe’s grand opening had music, dance performances, a bouncy castle, face painting, and a sweet stall.
The 46-year-old mum added: “Everything for the shop has been donated, from the signs to the sinks and the tables.
“I’m completely overwhelmed with how generous everyone has been especially as this he been a very difficult time for the family.
Jack’s sister, Amy Boyton, 23, said her brother was loved and thanked the community for all its support.
She said: “I miss everything about him because he was my baby brother and just an amazing person.
“Everyone fell in love with him as soon as they met him and he was such a great part of the community.”
All of the boys who died in the crash had all grown up together in the Elsinge Estate in Bullsmoor and all attended The Lea Valley High School.
